XIX Century Museum Valencia
The former Convent of the Carmen Calzado is located in the picturesque district of Carmen de Valencia, in the historic center of town. It currently houses the Museum of the nineteenth century, one of the most important museums in Valencia.
The building dates from the thirteenth century, first settling in the Carmelite Order of Valencia by permission of King Pedro III of Aragon.
The convent of the Carmen Calzado de Valencia is composed of several parts, according to its time of construction. They differ in the cloisters of gothic, medieval chapel, the cloister of a Renaissance façade and finally the parish of Santa Cruz much more modern style.
A historic monument of great architectural value which is considered a masterpiece of ancient architecture.
The XIX Century Museum houses a collection of works (paintings and sculptures in their vast majority) that reflect the different artistic and cultural moment that has passed through the Spanish and Valencian society in general throughout the nineteenth century until the early twentieth century. We can find works by Sorolla, Degrain, Pinazo, Museum of the nineteenth century is a reflection of our recent past.
The museum can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 hours.
